Physiology of OMAD

What is OMAD?

Back in 2009, I saw a 60 minutes interview of General McChrystal, supreme commander of the US forces in Afghanistan at the time. The man was a dynamo, running 7 miles a day every day, and with a physique, a 20-year-old could envy. The general said that he had done that all his life, eating only One Meal a Day (OMAD). I felt that I could easily do that, without having to count calories while eating whatever I wanted, as he described he would do.

From Fat to Fit

Since then I have lost 63 lbs (28.6 kg), but most importantly, I am able to do extreme calisthenics for 1 1/2hrs every day, in addition to 1 hr of tennis, and grown my muscle mass. I have also lost my mam-boobs and developed a V shape upper body. Something I could only dream about when I was in my 20’s. As it turns out, OMAD helps you develop the use of ketone bodies, instead of sugar for energy. Accordingly, I exercise while in fast, since I exercise between 6 and 10 am, before I have anything to eat. My single meal is usually at 11 am, but OMAD is really flexible. You can do it at any time. Not surprisingly, successful athletes use OMAD with fantastic results. When I started OMAD I used to walk for 45 hrs every day. I soon began to walk for 2 hrs/day and then started calisthenics, doing pushups, for 30 min daily. On Sundays, I go hiking for 95 minutes. Best of all, I don’t have loose skin. Recently I have started doing pull-ups, something I never thought I could do.

Better Cognitive Functions

But even if you do not want to be an athlete, OMAD has also significant effects on cognitive functions. I guess I am an example of that too, because since 2009, despite being of an age when most people would think aging decline starts, I have learned 3 additional languages (Italian, French, and German), I have developed 4 websites (including this) and even written a few musical pieces. In addition, I trade stock options in the stock market and run 2 businesses: My Pathology consulting businesses and a options trading education website. Running this website is my new project.

The video below will help you see how this is all likely due to OMAD. Believe me, I was a couch potato when I started my OMAD. Before I knew it, I was becoming an athlete, without any pressure. My motivation was my own desire to live longer, reduce my risk of prostatic carcinoma, and be a little more physically fit. I believe that my hormonal changes including higher testosterone and growth hormone, lower insulin, conspired to make me what I am today, without feeling pressured or overwhelmed.
